Description – Interior Design Project

Our Brief:

Our client came to us with some challenging issues regarding their existing home. They were deciphering between selling or renovating. They loved the location of their home being a few minutes stroll from the beach, but their house was cold, dark and not functional as a floor plan for a family. The ground floor plan was like a rabbit warren, as soon as you entered the home there were five different doors to choose from, making it confusing and cluttered.

The house was lacking flow and had a desperate need for natural light, space and storage.

The existing living room was originally south facing and was in one of the darkest parts of the ground floor, which meant it was very cold during the winter months and hard to heat the space.

After much thought and consideration, extracting a thorough brief from our client. We resigned the floor plan and created a small extension of the rear (north-facing) part of the house pushing out by two metres on both the ground floor and first floor.

The entrance now has a generous 1.5 metre wide hallway which leads you straight through the home to the back of the house. The laundry/mudroom is now located where the old living room was. The kitchen, dining and living room are all now open plan and full of natural light, with bifold doors sprawling the entire width of the house which opens out to a large north facing deck.

The Master now has its own large walk-in robe and ensuite bathroom. We selected all finishes and fittings throughout and designed custom joinery such as the Kitchen, mudroom, study, ‘Murphy Bed’ wall for a media/guest room.
